Still learning new stuff

Does it ever end? Quick answer, no.

Just over a month ago I wrote a post about how I was beginning to study the development framework Flutter for a hackathon project we were planning on doing. I spent a week studying the material on Udemy, and then went on to build something that actually worked!

We then turned our focus to our real product for Pivvt, and I asked my co-founder what we should use to build our front-end. He said that while Flutter was interesting to hack together something quick, he preferred that we use React to build our initial web app. We set a goal to put together our very first app in one week, and then we went off on our ways.

As I got to work, I put together a wireframe of the user flow and designs for the app. Realizing the load of development required of my partner, I decided to look into what else I could help with. I spent a lot of time over the past year working on UI development using Ruby on Rails, and the past few weeks on Flutter, so I decided to see if there were parts of React that I could pick up quickly.

I found a React library that helps organize style for web apps, so I dug more into how it worked. I found a website that went deeper into the topic and I read further, to the point where I felt it would be a good tool worth trying. That same site also happened to have a link to a Udemy course where that library was covered in detail. The lecture time was only about two hours, so I decided to purchase the course and give it a go.

I spent a day going over the material and followed along with the exercises. Surprisingly, thanks to my experience coding over the past year, the majority of the concepts seemed to make sense. The next day I went on to create a new project and started to build the UI.

Each experience in life builds upon the others, and I am simply amazed at where I am today. I will not be the best coder, nor do I see myself getting really good at this or spending a lot of time on it. In the meantime, I continue to learn and find ways to get things done. So goes the life of an entrepreneur.

Sometimes you just have to get out there and try new things to accomplish whatever you have set out to do.
